Beginning with the third issue of Smile, Hon, You're in Baltimore!, and throughout O'Malley's tenure as mayor, I would send copies of each new edition to his office at City Hall. And to my surprise, he actually sent me several brief thank-you notes in return.

O'MALLEY: We're going to need a bigger budget.
REPORTER: Marty, the summer is over. You're the Governor of shark city. What are you going to do?
O'MALLEY: We're gonna hire Quint to kill the shark.
REPORTER: That doesn't prove a damn thing!
O'MALLEY: Well it proves one thing. I proves that you wealthy college boys don't the education enough to admit when you're wrong.
REPORTER: What the hell are you talking about?
O'MALLEY: Not only that but I'm responsible for public safety around here.
REPORTER: Are you going to close the beaches?
O'MALLEY: I have no further comment.
