Deadlines and Downbeats!

BALTIMORE, Md. – The August 15 deadline to submit your prose, poetry, or photography for the upcoming Smile, Hon, You’re in Baltimore! “Work” issue is fast approaching!  E-mail your submissions to wpt@eightstonepress.com.

In related news, don’t miss the long-awaited Smile, Hon, You’re in Baltimore! No. 16 “Delayed Gratification” Release Party beginning at 8:00 p.m., Wednesday, August 14, at the Towson Applebee’s, 8610 Lasalle Road, Towson 21286.  The event coincides with the restaurant’s weekly Ladies Night Karaoke, beginning at 9:00 p.m.  No readings will be staged – only singing, and all those in attendance will be expected to perform at least one song.  Or not.  Either way, we will make fun of you.  Parking is copious and convenient, and children are welcome.  Pets, however, are not.

From the harbor to the hills, Smile, Hon, You're in Baltimore! collects the tales of those on whom Mobtown has left her indelible mark. Polished, professional essays; barroom sermons delivered from the sanctity of a favorite stool; the poet's fleeting sentiment, captured in both word and snapshot – Smile, Hon offers a slice of Baltimore as told by Baltimore, presented with the time-honored DIY accessibility of a limited-run, handcrafted zine. A two-time Utne Reader Independent Press Award Nominee, Smile, Hon has also been dubbed "Best Zine" by Baltimore Magazine (2013 & 2008) and Baltimore City Paper (2004). Other special theme issues have tackled such subjects as sex, rats, tattoos and waste.
